Chapter 18 - Reaction Rates and Equilibrium
Vocabulary:
activated complex activation energy catalyst chemical equilibrium collision theory endothermic process equilibrium constant exothermic process inhibitor Le Chatelier’s principle rate of reaction reversible reaction
· Define the collision theory. Use collision theory to explain why a reaction occurs.
· Create and interpret and potential energy diagram (same as last unit)
· Identify factors that affect the rate of reaction and explain how each factor affects the rate using the collision theory.
· Know how a catalyst/inhibitor changes the rate of a reaction and how they affect equilibrium.
· Describe and identify a reversible reaction.
· Be able to explain chemical equilibrium. Including its relationship to reaction rates and concentration of products and reactants.
· Explain Le Chatelier’s Principle. Explain how various stresses (concentration, temperature, and pressure) change equilibrium.
· Write the formula for Keq. Determine what is favored for various values of Keq.
