Course Description: Formative Instructional Practices helps educators use current pedagogy to develop accurate assessment to facilitate personalized, differentiated learning. The online module is grounded in research and hosted by Battelle for Kids Login. The modules are full of examples and self-assessment of your own practice so that you may prioritize areas for continual professional growth. In addition, district has created FIP 2-5 Reference Guides to refer back to training, as needed, upon completion of a module within FIP 2-5. Also see FIP Overview Slides.
John Hattie’s research (2016) concludes instructional practices that have highest effect size on student achievement:
Teacher estimates of achievement - Teachers understand specific achievement needs of individual students based on assessment and ongoingly provide effective student feedback on learning (1.13 - 1.62 effect size) See: Proficiency Rubric
Student ownership of goals/learning - Students know their progress on learning targets and how to move learning to higher levels well before summatives and report card grades. (1.33 effect size)
Audience: All teachers
Certification: Upon completion of a training module, you can print out or save/PDF a copy of the completion certificate. This can be uploaded to PD Express to indicate professional development obtained (seat hours) toward licensure/IPDP.
Training Dates: Staff must complete next training annually and show evidence of application annually per the goal setting set forth in the Professional Growth/Improvement Plan.
