Intercultural sensitivity

Milton Bennett has formed a scale to measure intercultural sensitivity.

It is divided into two main groups:

On the ethnocentric side we can find these stages:

Denial - When people deny there are cultural changes or straight up ignore them.

Defense - When people see their culture as the only one and true one.

Minimization - When people start to see a few differences, but still need to acknowledge them.

And on the ethnorelative side we can find these three stages:

Acceptance - When people see their own culture equal to all other cultures.

Adaptation - When people appreciate other cultures by being able to see the world through others' eyes.

Integration - People rarely get to this stage. This is when people can understand and help people from other cultures.
