Facts
Genesis is about beginnings.
In the first eleven chapters of Genesis we read about prehistory, the events from creation down to the time of Abraham.
The story revealed to God's people the truths about creation:
Everything in existence is created by God.
Everything that God created is good and depends on him.
The first creation account makes it clear that the God we worship is a living being, and is the source of all life.
God is eternal - changeless and timeless
God is all-powerful - can do anything
God is all-knowing - knows everything, past, present, and future
God is ever-present - everywhere at all times
The biblical writer is telling us that only human beings are made in the image and likeness of God.
Each one of us is a unique person who possesses a human dignity.
Being made in the image and likeness of God carries with it serious responsibilities.
We are called to respect and care for what God has given us.
Since our free will makes us responsible for our own thoughts and actions we must make our choices carefully.
Our human dignity gives us the value of being unique and having different talents
