BOYSEN, LEWIS

Lewis C. Boysen (1855-1892), was born in Ohio, son of Otto Boysen (1827-), an M. D., and a druggist, and Paulina Colloredo Boysen (1832-).
He had three brothers : Theophile, Edward and Charles. As a teenager he began selling U. S. and foreign coins and stamps.

John Kerr Tiffany cites him as publishing a three page price list 5-1/4" x 7-1/4" for stamp packets in 1871. Tiffany notes the L. Boysen & Bro. Price Catalogue of American and Foreign Postage Stamps began in August 1871 comprised 14 pages 3-1/4" x 4-3/4", but was never completed.
In 1875, Emmanuel Joseph Attinelli, Numisgraphics cites his fixed price list for coins printed on a sheet 5" x 8" printed on both sides..
He was a druggist who carried a side line as a coin and stamp dealer.
