Absence Policy

COVID Update:

Classroom "attendance" will look different this year. As long as you are healthy, I expect your attendance and participation in class whether it is in-person or online from home. We will use our class time together to work collaboratively and to challenge each other with questions and discussions, therefore you will be expected to be attentive to this class during the assigned class time.

Absences are not always avoidable, but I expect you to be in class whenever possible. (Remember, your grade is affected in part by your presence in class.) When and if you are absent, you are expected to do the following:

Planned absence:

  • Notify me as soon as possible that you will be absent (especially for extended absences)
  • Obtain all work in advance
  • Turn in any work due that day before you leave
  • Make arrangements to make up any quizzes, etc., that you will miss

Unplanned absence:

  • Check Google Classroom and the class website to find out what you missed
  • See me the day you are back in school (regardless of green or gold day schedule)
  • Turn in any work due the day you were absent
  • Obtain worksheets/notes from the class binder
  • If you miss a quiz, see me! You have three days upon your return to school to make up the quiz during power block or before/after school
  • If you feel unprepared for a quiz due to excused absences, see me before the scheduled quiz date to discuss your options... I will consider delaying your quiz

If you are absent, please feel free to send me an email (skerrigan@nrpsk12.org).... you can attach homework assignments, receive attachments, and have a better idea about what is going on when you return. You should also utilize the class website as an additional resource.
