What is the Sliver Seal of Biliteracy?
The NHPS Silver Seal of Biliteracy is a new graduation award for 8th graders. It represents language proficiency progress on the path to the Seal of Biliteracy and a commitment to learning and using languages in the community. Students who prove they are at the Novice High level and complete a community-related project by June 1st of 8th grade are eligible to receive the award.
We will ensure the following:
Equal access to all students in all 8th grade where there are world language classes also taught.
Students are committed to learning and using languages, but it is not a “good behavior” award. Language proficiency is a large part of this award.
All schools award it the SAME way; it is a district award.
That it is sustainable over time.
That participation by students is voluntary, but also represents effort toward language learning or maintenance.
