Hello Top Tigers! I hope you are doing well. I miss seeing all of you. This week's lesson is very simple, but it does involve you listening to a story and then making a map. Have you studied maps in K, 1st or 2nd grades?

Please listen to the story The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton below (you may have read the story before, but is always okay to read a story more than once!) After you have listened to the story and looked at the pictures, I would like you to draw a map of your neighborhood to include parts of Wilmington.

Please include a Rose Compass on your drawing; include where you live - a house or apartment - don't put your address, but you may put your street name if you would like; draw PVES since it must be close to where you live! Maybe you would like to include the beach since there are a number of beaches in our area. Lable streets, apartments, school, grocery stores, churches, beaches, or anything else you include. Then, I would like you to write a descriptive two or three sentences of where you live - so if I close my eyes I can visualize it.

Little House was written & illustrated by Virginia Lee Burton in 1942; that is 78 years ago! The book won the Caldecott Medal in 1943 for best pictures!
