FAQ's with Online Learning

Feeling overwhelmed? You're NOT alone! I have created this page for parents, guardians, and students to use as a reference for frequently asked questions. Lots of families have the same questions about online learning. I am still learning about all this myself!


I'm happy to add your questions to this page as we go on with online learning. When I feel I've found the best answer, I'll post as soon as I am able!

SEL/ Morning Meeting

  • What is SEL?
    • There are a number of names for SEL this year: Morning Meeting/ Small Groups/ SEL Groups/ Synchronous Second Step Lessons/ Social and Emotional Learning Groups.
    • SEL stands for Social and Emotional Learning. This is a class or small group specifically designed to reach the child first. We will meet virtually every day from 8:30am - 9:10am. Your child's Morning Meeting teacher may not be a teacher on their schedule. This is just another adult they can connect with during the school year to help them through this time. We are concerned about the emotional and social needs of our students because of being separated from them and because they're separated from their friends. We want to make sure your child has a voice and a place to come together (virtually) with their peers. This is a safe and open space for kids to reflect on their summers and voice their concerns and wishes for the new year!


Elective Classes

  • Why is my child signed up for PE this semester?
    • The county has said that all children are to take PE as an elective for this first semester. Please reach out to Coaches: Harrison, Bennett, Ashley, and Hager for more details.
  • What are the yearlong electives?
    • Chorus, Band, & Orchestra.
  • What happens if I get kicked out of a meeting and my internet fails?
    • First, breathe! Second, email your teacher straight away and explain what happened. We're flexible and we're happy to work with you! Sometimes, our internet fails too!


Administrative/ Front Office

  • I was unable to swing by the school to pick up a beginning of the year packet/ my child's schedule/ a device. Can I still do that?
    • Absolutely! You're invited to give the front office a call first to ensure they have a device ready. We're still distributing and collecting forms.
  • Can I add more names to the pink (authorized pickup) sheet that was handed out in the beginning of the year packet?
    • Yes! You are able to add more names to that sheet. Please hold off on contacting the main office until week 5-6 to add those names.
