About Literacy Lab

The goal of Literacy Lab is to provide appropriately targeted and differentiated instruction in reading and writing skills, habits, and strategies. The course includes explicit small group and individual instruction, as well as guided and independent practice using texts appropriate to each student’s reading abilities and interests in a safe and supportive environment. Literacy Lab is a place where each child is able to bolster his/her engagement, confidence, and skills in reading, writing, while analyzing and discussing literature.

Writing Skills and Strategies: Responding to literature, finding and citing evidence from a text, fiction and research writing, revision, editing for appropriate punctuation and grammar, revision
Self-Perception as a Reader and Writer: Motivation, engagement, confidence
Reading Habits: Investment, quantity of reading, stamina, independence, locating and selecting “just right” books, broadening their reading palette, fostering the love of reading
