Section 11: Fluids

Goal: To understand the properties of matter in static and dynamic conditions.

Objectives: Students will be able to:

- Describe the four phases of matter and what distinguishes each phase

- Calculate and use density and specific gravity to identify substances.

- Define and calculate liquid pressure

- Explain and apply Archimedes principle and be able to calculate the buoyant force

- Explain Pascal’s principal and relate it to hydraulic systems in common use.

- Use Pascals principle to make calculations for hydraulic systems

- Explain how atmospheric pressure is measured and be able to calculate and convert between various measures of atmospheric pressure.

- Explain the Bernoulli principle and relate it to flight

Labs: Density, Archimedes and Boyle's. There will be many in class demonstrations to observe that are testable.
