Staff Interviews: What is Staff and Why Should I Tryout for it?
A staff position in NJROTC is the same as being an officer in a club or a manager at a job. Cadets will be given a list of different staff positions available and a short summary of what each one entails. Cadets are chosen based off their work ethic and participation inside the unit, as well as outside extracurricular activities.
Being on staff allows the cadets to develop leadership skills for real world events. Having a staff position means cadets will run their own job independently with help of others if necessary. Cadets on staff have the priviledge of voicing new ideas and opinions to the rest of staff, Gunnery Sergeant and Lieutenant. Having a staff position sets cadet at another level compared to cadets not on staff. They are looked at as role models and hold higher responsibilities with their capabilities expanded upon.
Top four staff positions are usually held for seniors and some juniors. Any staff position below top four can be held by anyone, but the main jobs are held by juniors. Assistant jobs are given to sophmores in order for them to learn what their job does and how to do it for the following year when they go for the main position. For example, a junior may be the Supply Officer and have several sophmore assistants. The next year those sophmores will tryout for Supply Officer, if they liked the job.
Staff interviews will be determined at a later time and announced through the website, remind and the Instagram. Cadets will be notified of who got a staff position in a few weeks following interviews. Cadets will be split up into two random groups and assigned one day to come for staff interviews. If a cadet cannot make any one of the days listed, please have them contact Cadet Lieutenant Commander Lilli Georgescu at tsunami2424@outlook.com.
Each Cadet is required to fill out a cover letter and resume and email it to tsunami2424@outlook.com no later than March 27th at 5 pm. Failure to do so will result in the Cadet not having a chance to be interviewed. It is recommended that cadets write an improvement plan for the staff position they are hoping to obtain. Cadets need to bring one copy of their resume and cover letter, as well as improvements plans if they have written one.
Cadets must wear their uniform and make a good impression with shined belts and shoes, haircuts, slicked back buns, correct measurments, etc. Cadets will wait outside the NJROTC room and once they are called to come in they will march to the center of the room where a chair will be placed and salute and say “ Ma’am cadet (rank) _____ reporting for Staff interviews Ma’am”, the CO will salute you and tell you to take a seat. Sit at attention (sit up straight with your hands flat on your knees, be professional) They(Cadets) will be asked a few questions about themself, activies, goals and ideas for the unit. Interviews will be done the same way interviews are for jobs

I joined this unit when I was a freshman because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than me. Through my time in NJROTC I have always tried my best to help make the unit better from teams to service and leading, I want to see the unit become something past, present and future cadets can love and appreciate. The unit is more than a class it is a family, I have always wanted to pass on what I have learned in it to new generations and to lead them to great things. I am going for the position of CO/XO to help the unit be a stable environment for which cadets can grow their leadership skills.
While I spent my three years in the unit I have come across different ways at looking at NJROTC. Most people see this class as a class and not as an opportunity, we need to encourage these people to start doing something and maybe then they can find a passion or just fun in it. I feel like being in the position of CO/XO is a lot of responsibility you are in charge of the future of this unit and given the opportunity in this position I will put my best foot forward. To encourage everyone and their specific skills in the unit as they grow and lead themselves. In a staff aspect this year supply had a lot on their plate and could not do it alone it will be my duty to make sure every department gets what they need to grow to their best potential.
Sincerely Thomas J. Hummel

Work Experience
Supply Officer ( 1 Year ) ( 2 years in Supply)
This year we had to get ready for AMI A12 inspection. I had to keep the floor inventory and computer inventory correct. I had to completely redo the way supply is ran, their was work that had to be done from 10 years ago. I made a new organization system that allows us to go to a board look and know where and how much we have of a supply( there is still improvements being made to this like Active lows and wants that are being put in now ). There is also plans on improving the check out and in system that will come in to effect next year. I found many supplies that were outdated and need to be thrown away. Now supply is in a good direction and is set to achieve great things
Supply this year received recognition for being one of the greatest supply years since the opening of the unit by the A12 commander.
Orienteering commander ( 1 year ) ( 2 Years a leader role )
As a OC you have to take you team to the highest point as possible. You also get to teach a extremely important skill, reading a map and navigation.
This year we had to find new runners and motivate them. We did the best we could do but it was not good enough so next year we will go to state. I taught a lot of new people map and terrain knowledge.
Courtesy Clerk for Kroger ( 5 months )
As a CC for Kroger you made the store work, if it need cleaning you did it. If it need stocking you did it, mainly you would work with other to bring carts in by a certain time. Most importantly bagging and finding. If a customer was having a bad day it was my job to help them.
When I was a CC I had to problem solve and work with others to get tasks done by a certain time. My favorite part was connecting with the people I would have to talk to them and be patient. I would have to defuse a situation or improve one. I need them to go home with a smile of there face and have them come back
I was given a recommendation from my manager for hard work and being great with customers.
