Academic Team: Academic Team includes cadets who take a 50 or 100 question test in person in the classroom and at Drill Meets. We also compete in JLAB (JROTC Leadership Academic Bowl) and are competitive. A subset of the Academic Team is the Brain Brawl Team.
Air Rifle: We shoot .177 caliber pellet rifles at a target 10 meters away. The team practices in the classroom early in the morning before school starts. We have a competitive team and have gone on to the Area Rifle Championship many times. We typically travel to the Ole Mill in Griffin, GA and to the Civilian Marksman Program Range in Anniston, AL.
Brain Brawl: Each Brain Brawl Team consists of one cadet for each Naval Science Level for a primary team of four plus one alternate. We typically have two Brain Brawl Teams and have been incredibly competitive. The Brain Brawl Teams do a lot of studying on their own. They also will have some practices before and after school so they can get used to "buzzing in" and answering questions.
Color Guard: The Color Guard consist of usually four cadets, two of which carry flags and two of which carry rifles. Our Color Guard presents the flag at varsity sports events and competes as a competitive team at Drill Meets. Our Color Guard has earned several trophies over the years and have presented the Colors as some high-level events such as the Super Cross Race at the Georgia Super Dome.
Drill Teams: We have four competitive drill teams. They are Unarmed Basic Drill, Unarmed Exhibition Drill, Armed Basic Drill and Armed Exhibition Drill. Armed means they carry drill rifles. Basic means they follow a standard card of moves that is given to them. Exhibition means that the teams come up with a creative routine to "show off". Drill Teams typically practice after school. Our Drill Team has earned several trophies over the years.
Drone Team: Drone Team flies a couple of small drones in competitions. Our Drone Team has had some great success with some 1st place trophies.
Orienteering: A race through the woods. You are given a map, compass and electronic finger stick and turned loose in the woods at a state park. You run and find about a dozen points. The finger stick records the exact time you were there. The runner with the quickest time wins. There are several courses based on difficulty so even beginners can be competitive. The best way to practice is to attend a meet sponsored by the Georgia Orienteering Club. You can google them and find out when and where the next club meet is going to be. Anyone can attend these meets and they usually have a training class at 1000 the morning of the meet. If you want to be good at orienteering you should plan on going to these meets.
Sabre Team: Sabre Team does not compete but performs at ceremonial type events. For example, at the Homecoming Football Game, we will present a Sword arch for the Homecoming Court. We also do sword arches for Senior nights for various sports.
Cyber Patriot: Cyber Patriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air & Space Forces Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. At the core of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, the nation's largest cyber defense competition that puts high school and middle school students in charge of securing virtual networks.
