Uniform inspection days (usually Thursday)

Cadets are required to wear their uniform once a week for the entire day, from leaving home to arriving home. That is a program requirement for all 583 NJROTC units globally. Cadets will be issued a relaxed-fit jacket for cool weather. On exceptionally cold days, it is acceptable for cadets to wear another coat, hat, or gloves over their uniform, but the cadet must take those off those items when they enter the school building. Information on correct wear of the uniform is at left under Unit Information/Uniform Information.

Cadets will be graded by instructors and receive a grade of:

Outstanding (100 points), Excellent (93 points), Very Good (87 points), Good (80 points), Satisfactory (70 points), or Unsatisfactory (60 points)

- If cadet has unauthorized head/facial accessories (nose/lip/eyebrow ring, tongue stud etc), the inspection stops at that point with a grade of Unsatisfactory

- If cadet is unable to properly wear their uniform cover (hat) because of their hair, the inspection stops at that point with a grade of Unsatisfactory

- Deductions for uniform inspection:

Wrong answer to knowledge question: -1 grade

Improper grooming: -1, 2 or 3 grades

Unauthorized accessories -2 grades each

(headphones, non-reg earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces etc.)

Missing cover (hat): -2 grades

Not having name on inside of cover -1 grade

Missing belt or white crew/V-neck undershirt: -1 grade each

Missing devices: -1 grade each

Sloppy uniform (stains, wrinkles, no creases) -1 points each

Poorly shined shoes: -1 or -2 grades

Other minor deficiencies (missing a beltloop, button unbuttoned) -1 grade each

The lowest grade a cadet can receive if they are in uniform all day is a 60.

Cadets who miss a uniform inspection with an unexcused absence will receive a zero for the day. Cadets can make up that zero by coming to school in uniform on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday for inspection to make up the grade. Their makeup grade will be a grade lower than what they would have received on the original uniform inspection day.

Cadets who (after inspection) change out of their uniform without prior permission from an instructor will receive a zero for the day. This cannot be made up.

Cadet Fitness Challenge - Separate from the PT dressout and participation process grades for the 2 days of the challenge, cadets will receive a product grade for their level of achievement on the two days of the test. This is based on the adjective grade awarded per CDMIS. Outstanding = 100, Excellent = 93, Good = 87, Satisfactory = 80, Took both parts of the test and didn't pass = 60.
