1. Male Grooming Standards
A. HAIRCUTS. See Cadet Field Manual pages 1-3 through 1-4, for guidelines and also the illustration. There are specific requirements which must be met if male cadets are to be considered to have a proper cut. The requirements are contained in the grooming instructions and illustrated on the next page, but local barbers do not always meet them. The biggest problem is that the hair must be tapered on the sides and back. It cannot be blocked or chopped.
B. EARRINGS. Earrings are NOT permitted to be worn by males while in uniform or within the NJROTC spaces.
C. Facial hair, in uniform, is not permitted with the exception of a neatly trimmed mustache not extending below the corners of the mouth.
2. Female Grooming Standards.
A. See the illustration on pages 1-5 through 1-7 for hairstyle and become familiar with guidelins for personal appearance and grooming in the NJROTC Field Manual
B. A maximum of two braids neatly secured to the head are authorized. "Scrunchies" are not authorized in uniform to hold the hair up.
C. Earrings. Females are permitted to wear earrings, but they must be a silver or gold ball, and limited to one per ear lobe.
