Pre-Algebra 3005 1.0 credit
Pre-Algebra is a two-semester course designed to aid the student in making the transition from mathematics to algebra/geometry. This course provides an in-depth study of the prerequisite skills, concepts, and problem-solving processes needed to help students become successful in Algebra and Geometry.
Linear and Non-Linear Algebra 1 3010 1.0 credit
Linear and Non-Linear Algebra 1 is a two-semester course designed to further develop basic algebraic problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning in the student. The first semester is Linear Algebra only and the second semester covers Non-Linear Algebra including exponents, quadratic functions, polynomials, and radicals, as well as other skills necessary for success in Geometry and Algebra 2.
Geometry 3020 1.0 credit
Geometry is a two-semester course designed to help students understand the basic structure of plane geometry. This includes the concepts of congruence, parallelism, and similarity with triangles, parallelograms, and other polygons. The student is introduced to formal proofs and logical reasoning. Several other topics are studied such as circles, area, volume, trigonometry, and coordinate geometry. Satisfactory completion of Algebra is a prerequisite.
Algebra 2 3030 1.0 credit
Algebra 2 is a two-semester course that focuses primarily on higher-level linear and non-linear functions and trigonometry. It is designed to aid students in modeling real-world applications with different types of functions. Semester one encompasses an extension of linear and quadratic functions and matrices. Semester two covers non-linear functions including polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions as well as trigonometric functions and their properties. Successful completion of Linear and Non-Linear Algebra and Geometry is a prerequisite for Algebra 2. A graphing calculator is required for this course. At this time the TI-84 is the recommended calculator.
Algebra 2A 3035 1.0 credit
Algebra 2A is a two-semester course for students who have successfully completed Algebra 1 and Geometry. This course is designed to help the students who are challenged by mathematics, are planning on attending a technical school/college/university that requires Algebra 2, and have no intentions of taking PreCalculus. A student will not be allowed to enroll concurrently in Algebra 2A and Geometry. In order to best support students enrolled in Algebra 2A, the pacing will be adapted to meet the needs of the students in the course. Class entrance will be prioritized for students who took Pre-Algebra as a freshman, and/or received a C or lower in Algebra 1, and/or receive teacher recommendation for Algebra 2A. Students will review the language of algebra, linear functions and relations, inequalities, and graphing. New topics will include matrices, rational and irrational numbers, complex numbers, polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and rational functions (with the possibility of trigonometric functions or other math concepts).
Precalculus 3040 1.0 credit
Precalculus is a two-semester course for students who have successfully completed Advanced Algebra. Students will study polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Conic sections, vectors in two- and three-dimensions, sequences, series, proof by induction, and limits will be investigated. A graphing calculator is required. A TI-84 is recommended.
Consumer Math 3045 1.0 credit
Consumer Math is a two-semester junior or senior elective course that applies basic mathematical skills to daily living. The course covers topics on basic arithmetic, computations with and without calculators, estimation, and math as it is applied to the work world, personal finances, housing, transportation, and trades. This course is designed to help students bridge the gap between the mathematics they learn in school and how it applies to their everyday lives. Students must have math department approval prior to enrollment in this course, as it is only to fulfill the math credit requirement for graduation.
Statistics 3050 1.0 credit
Statistics is a two-semester elective course. Statistics is the study of collecting, organizing, analyzing and interpreting data. Students will learn to use technology to assist in the interpretation of data. A graphing calculator is recommended for the course. A TI-84 is preferred. Enrollment in Statistics requires successful completion of Algebra 2 or approval of the math department if a student is concurrently enrolled in Algebra 2.
Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus 3060 1.0 credit
AP Calculus is a two-semester course for students who have successfully completed Pre-Calculus. Functions, graphs, limits, derivatives and their applications, and integrals and their applications will be studied. The national AP Calculus AB exam will be administered to all members of the class in May. A graphing calculator is required. A TI-84 or TI-83 is recommended. Prerequisites for this course: (a) successful completion of Pre-Calculus with at least a B+ and (b) approval by the instructor.
