*Stars*
by Leah Wilcox
The glistening stars,
Spread their boundless light,
Throughout the universe.
Over Ages,
Eons,
And worlds,
They twinkle with their arcane knowledge,
Of stellar secrets,
And keys to universes.
******
Each hums gently,
Throbbing to its own inner song,
Which blends with the harmonies,
Of their remote brethren,
To create a jumbled symphony,
Of strange and varied quality,
Titled “The Pulse of All Space.”
******
Titans of the light,
They bring on the tides of night and day,
And forge the waves of the spectrum we see.
******
A star cares for its reliant children,
Special clusters of planets,
Born of the very same matter as itself.
It protects their lands,
Warms their people,
And satisfies their deep hunger.
******
Tragically,
The star must then drive a stake,
Through its children’s hearts,
As it goes nova,
In a last brittle, brilliant burst.
Destroyer,
Of its own little space,
Of heaven.
******
Too soon,
The last vivid glimmers of its wonder,
Fade.
To reveal that only insignificant bits,
Of castoff matter remain.
******
Then one day,
Those drifting particles,
After traversing countless hollow lands,
Will be lured into a nebula,
To accumulate their scattered strength,
Until ultimately they plunge once more,
Into blissful fires.
******
Finally,
The last remnants are reborn.
Once again the debris becomes plasma,
Highest form of matter.
