SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. We provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms at all levels middle school, high school and college.

SkillsUSA offers local, state and national opportunities for students to learn and practice personal, workplace and technical skills. These three components comprise the SkillsUSA Framework, a blueprint for career readiness. Local chapters conduct a full program of work and many students also attend a state conference. At the SkillsUSA Championships 6,500 students compete in 114 occupational and leadership skill areas each June. These national technical competitions help establish industry standards for job skill training and entry-level workers. SkillsUSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a successful model of employer-driven youth development training.

SkillsUSA Montana Strategic Plan
SkillsUSA Montana develops and maintains an organizational strategic plan for up to five years. Our four key imperatives, approved by the board of directors, align with the strategic plan but more tightly focus our work around improved local chapter and state association health, supported by enhanced business and industry partnerships.
Imperative 1: Establish SkillsUSA Montana as an education solution to state education agencies and local school districts.
Imperative 2: Help create an abundant supply of well-trained, highly motivated teachers to maintain and grow CTE programs with SkillsUSA Montana chapters.
Imperative 3: Ensure career readiness for every SkillsUSA Montana member through SkillsUSA Framework delivery.

Student Research Foundation: “The SkillsUSA Advantage”
A 2024 report from the Student Research Foundation shows that SkillsUSA members consistently outperform their peers not enrolled in a career and technical student organization (CTSO) in seven essential areas:
Earning a license or certification related to their field of study
Meeting potential employers
Being excited about their chosen career
Gaining work experience as a student
Understanding the work environment
Being excited about school
Connecting school to the real world
Among the 27,000 high school students surveyed, this “SkillsUSA Advantage” holds true regardless of gender, race/ethnicity or socioeconomic status. SkillsUSA students also reported greater access to expanded opportunities and dramatically improved career-readiness skills.

Recognizing State Associations through the State Standards of Excellence Program
SkillsUSA’s State Standards of Excellence Program experienced growth in its eight years as 45 states completed the process and received recognition. The program's purpose is to ensure state associations have policies, procedures, and structures in place annually that deliver a high level of service to their members. This program is not competitive between states but serves as a system allowing states to benchmark their performance and determine improvements to become the best organization for their members. State associations and the state SkillsUSA director, are recognized for achieving State Standards of Excellence. Congratulations to the state SkillsUSA directors who provide leadership for these state associations.
The following state associations were recognized for achieving the Bronze level of establishing a baseline for a healthy association: Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, Mississippi HS, North Dakota, South Dakota, Virginia, and Wisconsin HS.
The following states moved to the next level by being recognized for achieving Silver, ensuring the sustainability of healthy association: Arizona, Louisiana HS, Nevada, Puerto Rico, Tennessee HS, Wisconsin CPS, West Virginia, and Wyoming,
The following states reached the pinnacle of achievement by successfully completing the Gold level requirements, ensuring continual growth of the association: California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia CPS, Georgia HS, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana CPS, Massachusetts, Maine, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York HS, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee CPS, Texas CPS, Texas HS, Utah, and Washington.
