Spring State Leadership Conference

On March 30, 2015, a group of FBLA members from Masuk’s chapter attended the Spring State Leadership Conference. Competing in events ranging from agribusiness to job interview, the members were all quite determined to represent their school like never before. It was a very rewarding competition indeed.

During the day, there were various workshops available as well as talking with the candidates for the 2015-2016 officer positions. One of the workshops included “Campaigning In Action,” lead by PBL National President Beau Cobb, which consisted of learning how to give a proper speech when campaigning for an officer position, and also of how to properly answer a question in a Q&A session. Another available workshop was called, “Business Communications Do’s and Dont’s,” lead by public speaker Mark Zampino, which involved learning how to communicate with others and what a person should and should not do in the business field of work while doing so. Other workshops included, “Ice Cream Emergency,” lead by Debra J. Arrato who gave a tour of their ice cream truck and explained how its business worked; “Interview Skills,” lead by Kelly Lenz who gave members advice for when they find themselves in an interview; “How to Start a Business,” lead by Lisa Powell who provided the steps of opening a small business; “Collegiate and Scholarship Pathways,” lead by Margie Coupe from Johnson and Wales University who spoke about how to search for and apply for various types of scholarships, and also a workshop called, “Personal Finance,” was lead by Chris Lee from CT Jumpstart Coalition who gave tips on how to handle personal finances.
