GOLDEN RULE

Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated

Evidence of the Golden Rule :

  1. Respect everyone in the school community by using kind words and actions.

  2. Speak at appropriate times and keep your voices to an inside working level.

  3. Follow directions the first time they are given.

  4. Keeping hands, feet and objects to yourself.

We Practice Conflict Resolution:

In case we come upon a problem, students are taught conflict resolution:

  1. Ask Nice.

  2. Ask nice again.

  3. Tell the teacher or the closest adult to help.

Rewards:

Positive Praise (Daily) Star of the Day (Random)

Friday Report (Weekly) Compliment Chart (Random)

FUN FRIDAY (Weekly) The Joy of Learning (Everyday)

If you choose to break the Golden Rule:

1st time - Warning = Name on the Board

2nd time - One Check = Lose Free Time

3rd time - Two Checks = Write Warning letter to be signed by parent

FYI

  • Students will get no FUN FRIDAY privileges if they receive a check after their name twice in one week.

  • At anytime, Ms. Altomer reserves the right to send a child directly to the principal's office, dependent upon the severity of the behavior.

  • Names and checks are erased at the end of each day because every day is a new day to improve behavior.

PAX Program

Pinewood has adopted a researched based program to improve student attention span, behavior and cooperation. Visit the PAX program website to learn more.

Bucket Filling Program

This book tells the story of how everyone, all over the world, carries a bucket with them. The way people treat others can fill their buckets when they are kind, generous and considerate. People dip in others' buckets when they use unkind words and actions.

In the first few days of school, we spend time learning how to fill other peoples' buckets and avoid dipping from them. Children are able to fill their friends' buckets by writing positive notes of affirmation directly to their friends and placing it in the bucket. Visit Bucket Fillers Website for more information on the bucket filling program.

Character Education

Pinewood participates in a character education program to promote character development and includes anti-bullying initiatives. Students are encouraged to wear specific colors monthly in support of a kind and safe school community. Please visit our CHARACTER EDUCATION page for a schedule of colors and themes throughout the year.
