Heartcode ACLS HeartCode® ACLS Part 1 is a Web-based, self-paced instructional program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning. Upon successful completion of the online portion you will then have to perform a skills check with any staff member listed under the ACLS validator column on the skills check page. **Please bring your course completion certificate with you to your skills check.**

Some departments require ACLS certification. For first time ACLS certification it is best if you attend a two day ACLS class. You can attend classes held at Middlesex Health or go off site. Classes are held on an as needed basis. For ACLS recertification, an online recertification module will be assigned to you followed by a skills check. If you are interested in obtaining a BLS card, check with your supervisor/manager to find out if it is a job requirement for your position. If required, your department may pay for your initial certification and/or recertification.
If your position does not require you hold a valid certification but you are still interested in attaining it, you have 2 options:
Consult with your supervisor to see if there are any funds available in your department’s budget to pay for your certification.
If no funding is available you may still request certification, you’ll just have to pay for it. The cost for the BLS card is $50.00 and ACLS is $150.00. We accept cash or check made out to Middlesex Health, and deliver it the Center for Professional Development located on the 3rd floor of the Bardenheier Building. Once payment is received you will be assigned a course in HealthStream.
How do I request BLS / ACLS recertification?
Ask your manager for funding approval
Once approved by your manager or if paying out of pocket, call the Center for Professional Development at x-6480 and request the assignment. (You can also email your request to dawn.hussey@midhosp.org)
Once we have received your request we will assign you your course in HealthStream. You will receive an email at your midhosp.org address informing you of your assignment.
BLS and/or ACLS module and skills check.
Once assigned you have 60 days to complete both your online portion and your skills check.
Complete the online program, print out your certificate. For BLS, make an appointment with one of the BLS instructors listed above. For ACLS, please register for a class in HealthStream for a date/time to do your skills check.
How do I obtain my BLS and/or ACLS card?
Once you have passed both your online portion and completed your skills check you must present your certificate of completion and signed skills check sheet to the Center for Professional Development.
Your card will be processed through AHA and an eCard will be sent to your midhosp.org address (unless otherwise indicated).

Middlesex Health CPR Requirement:
The Middlesex Hospital CPR requirement consists of brief overview of CPR followed by a six question quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz, a skills check must be performed and validated by a staff member listed under the BLS/CPR validator column on the skills check page. RNs & PCTs are required to verify CPR skills every year. This can be accomplished through annual CPR skills checks or by holding a valid BLS card. Some departments require you to hold and maintain a valid BLS card some do not.
CPR annual validation
This is a healthstream assignment (takes about 10 minutes) followed by a skills check with an “alien” manikin on the unit during work time. The skill check consists of 30 compressions- adult only- looking for placement, rate and depth only. Valid for one year. N5 nurses and PCTs do 30 compressions on child, but no infant CPR.
