AP Literature & Composition
(AP Lit)
(AP Lit)
Welcome to AP Literature and Composition. While this is a rigorous, college-paced class, please keep in mind that this is a course for your development as a reader and writer, (and hopefully, your opportunity to earn some college credit). Should you have any questions or concerns, let me know. I am here to help make this year at Marian successful and memorable.
This course includes readings in British, American, and World Literature (poetry, short stories, longer works of fiction, and plays). Students prepare for the AP English Literature and Composition exam and may earn college credit. (Check with your college as soon as you are able.) Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination in English is a cooperative venture between the students and teacher. Students read widely and reflect on their reading through extensive discussion, writing, and analysis. The teacher complements the efforts of the students by leading discussions and by providing assignments that help students develop critical standards in their reading and writing. Students are expected to read books over the summer and annotate in preparation for the introductory stages of the course.
This course can seem a little daunting at first, especially for those who have not taken an AP course in the past. However, please keep in mind that students of varied backgrounds have taken the course and have been successful in preparing for the rigor of a college-level English course. Also, please note that it is possible to get an A in the course while only getting a 1 or 2 on the exam.
I am excited to share this journey with you. Should you have any questions or concerns, let me know. I am here to help make this year at Marian successful and memorable.
