As predicted Thunderstorms hit the Daytona area on Sunday afternoon. From all the V twin noise, the bikers present did not even notice until the rain started pouring down. Ironically the timing of the first downpour caused many of them to crowd into a dry bar where they were having wet T-shirt contests… I passed the time watching a rockabilly, and southern rock cover bands, then spent a windy night trying to dry off under a billowing tent. With the morning came more rains..
The weather has me somewhat trapped. More rain is expected to be passing through Florida and Georgia over the next few days. So far during this trip I have been semi successful in outrunning bad weather by changing travel direction. Now my intended direction is to head north, but there is a northern cold front bearing down on the Midwest with snow falling as far south as Virginia. New England is bracing for another blizzard and it’s mid March. This leaves me standing in the rain, with nowhere to go but snow...
I am going to try and slow down my travels and wait it out, but it is easier for me personally to push forward than to stand in place. At least then I am doing something. Interesting to note: I saw more BMW’s today in Daytona than during the entire weekend. Either bad weather brings out the Beemers, or rain washes away the other bikes revealing the resiliency of the German machines. (or the insanity of the BMW riders who would consider a typhoon a fine day for a ride?)
