Liza Alvarez is a passionate art educator who believes in the power of the arts to enhance all areas of academic learning. She is dedicated to making art accessible to every student, regardless of their background or skill level. In her classroom, students explore a wide range of creative practices—from drawing, painting, and sewing to weaving and bookmaking. History is woven into each project, providing meaningful context and connection. Liza emphasizes foundational skills while encouraging experimentation and risk-taking. For her, art is not just about being able to draw—it's about expression, exploration, and the joy of making.
Liza has a background in Fine Arts. She was a fine arts major in high school and received her BFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. She also has a Masters Degree in Cross Cultural Education from National University. Although she is newer at MAAC Community Charter School, she have been teaching for over 20 years.
