Mercoledi, 19 Aprile (Wednesday)

In the morning, buffet breakfast was provided, and then we had another uniquely Venetian experience: we traveled by vaporetto, or public water bus. Once on the mainland, a bus ride (on wheels this time) brought us within a very short walk of Liceo Franchetti, for a musical and social exchange with high school students. We followed that with a visit to Campo del Ghetto Nuovo, the old Jewish Ghetto, where we had a guided tour, and saw synagogues dating back as far as the 16th century. The night ended with dinner and another vaporetto ride home for our last night at Don Orione Artigianelli.

Ciao! Libby, Abbie, and Devon here. Today we got to sing and hang out with a bunch of Italian cuties. We met Nicola Caputo, Nick’s Italian twin! We took a tour of the Jewish ghetto in Venice which was very interesting and also beautiful. We rode a gondola, a once in a lifetime experience that was well worth the 80 euros. Devon made his third toast which was inspiring. Our feet hurt and the boat ride home was cold, but pretty. Ciao, Venice! We will miss you </3.

I am Cal, and I am in Venice. Today we visited a Venice high school and it was very fantastic. We talked to children who were our age but live in a entirely different country. This was amazing because I met people who were very interesting, friendly, and amusing, and I will probably never see them again in my entire life. I also think I met the love of my life but I don’t think I’ll ever see her again. She probably loved me too but it would never work out because she lives about 11 hours away. That’s O.K though, because life continues on.

Arrivederci Amigos,

Cal

Mercoledi - Wednesday

This is Max, Arjun, and Sam writing about our Italian adventures throughout the week. Despite not having a headphone jack on his plane seat, Max made it through the night thanks to a seven hour Kanye West playlist. Sam was bombarded by many con artists forcing him to take bird food and then extortin him for money, but he escaped and didn't pay them. Thanks to Eamon, Sam escaped from them and Eamon then led us on an adventure throughout Italian residential neighborhoods in an attempt to find a store that wasn't real. Arjun bought some sick shoes and chilled in Venice.

This is Michael B. Today has presented an entire host of new experiences. In an Italian high school, I learned that the fastest way into the heart of a Venetian is to laugh at their impression of a Florentine. I had discussions with my Italian counterparts, hilarious and profound. It was extraordinary to ho from humming Bohemian Rhapsody to jamming out with an Italian just as I would with a native of my own hemisphere. Mrs. Werlin is owed particular credit for this experience, as her ability to wrangle teenagers clearly appears to transcend language barriers. The Jewish ghetto gave me a powerful connection to my own heritage. The Jews built the highest buildings in town, the "skyscrapers of Venice," because they were confined to the ghetto's walls and could not build out, only up. When we are shut in, we rise up.
