Construction Apprenticeship Career Fair Sign Up

High School Counselors plan to bring 11th & 12th grade students who are interested in careers in the Construction and Building Industry to the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Building Trades Council Construction Apprenticeship Career Fair. Interested students should sign up and receive a permission slip in the Counseling Office. Only 40 spots are available, so don't wait! 

When: Thursday, November 13th 

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students will be transported by bus to the Plumbers & Pipefitters Apprentice & Journeymen Training Center. 

Students will experience: 

• A short intro to apprenticeship programs

• Guided small group rotations through 12 skilled trades:  Bricklayers, Carpenters, Electricians, HVAC, Ironworkers, Laborers, Millwrights, Operating Engineers, Painters & Glaziers, Plumbers & Pipefitters, Roofers & Waterproofers, Sheet Metal Workers 

• Lunch will be provided! 

Students attending must watch the Building Trades Video before the event. 

Job Shadow Application Dates for 2025-2026 School Year: Current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students can participate in 3 job shadows each school year.

November 1st - November 12th: Round 2 opens for Job Shadow Applications

January 5th - January 21st: Round 3 opens for Job Shadow Applications

PSAT: October 14, 15, 16 at The High School

HOBY Application

HOBY is a 3-day seminar for current high school sophomores to grow their leadership skills, learn more about themselves, and get motivated to be a leader in their school and community. If you are interested, please pick up an application in the counseling office, and return to Mr. Hill by November 24th.

Internship Application Dates for 2025-2026 School Year: 11th and 12th grade students can participate in an internship for credit during the school year or summer. 10th grade students can participate in an internship the summer before their 11th grade year for credit.

September 22nd - October 31st: Winter/Spring 2026 Internship Applications

December 15th - February 6th: Summer 2026 Internship Applications

March 9th - April 10th: Fall 2026 Internship Application

Kirkwood Course Registration!

If you are interested in taking individual courses at Kirkwood, sign up for those will not be available until October 15th. To see a full list of classes available through Kirkwood, please see our Earning College Credit page on our School Counseling website. More information will be available as we get closer to the registration date.
