Academics
Graduation Requirements
Linn-Mar High School students are required to earn 250 credits in order to graduate. In addition, the following department requirements must be met in order to earn a diploma:
English - 40 Credits
Must include English I or Adv. English I (10 credits each), English II or Adv. English II(may opt out if pass English I with a 90% or higher grade), English III or Advanced English III, and one speech/acting course (5 credits).
Math - 30 Credits
Must include Algebra 1 (10 credits) or Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B (20 credits).
Students planning to attend a 4-year college or university should plan to take at least through Algebra 2.
Science - 30 Credits
See left - Must include one class from each of 4 disciplines (earth science, biology, physics, and chemistry).
Some classes will cover 2 areas - see Applied Physics and Chemistry and Earth and Space Science.
Social Studies - 30 Credits
9th Grade: US History or Adv. US History
10th Grade: World History or AP World History
11th/12th Grades: Psychology (Intro or AP) or Sociology
Government (12th) or AP American Government (11th or 12th)
Health/PE - 20 Credits
9th Grade - Fundamentals of Lifetime Fitness
10th Grade - Fundamentals of Lifetime Fitness & Health 1
11th Grade - Lifetime Fitness
12th Grade - Lifetime Fitness
Personal Finance
Students must complete 1 quarter of Personal Finance prior to graduation. Students may take this course any time between 9-12 grades, but it is recommended that students take the class in 11th or 12th grades.
Electives - 95 Credits
Foreign Language
Foreign language is not required to graduate from Linn-Mar. Students may elect to take foreign language and should to meet college admission requirements. 2 years of high school foreign language is recommended.
Visual Arts
The Linn-Mar Art Department offers entry, intermediate, and advanced classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, and digital mediums. See the program of studies for full descriptions of these opportunities.
Music
Linn-Mar offers band, vocal, and orchestra for students in grades 9-12. Check the program of studies for options.

Schedule Change Policy
Students may drop or add a course without penalty before the following deadlines:
Add deadline-
Block class- End of the 3rd day of new quarter
Semester class- End of the 5th day of a new semester
Drop deadline-
End of 4th week of new term (block classes)
End of 8th week (semester classes)
Students need to talk to their school counselor about any schedule changes. Priority is given to students who need core credit and are under-enrolled*.
*Students in grades 9-11 are considered under-enrolled if they have less than 70 credits, 12th graders are considered under-enrolled if they have less than 60 credits.
