Part I. Introduction
This document describes how to install an excluded regions file (ERF) for a project under LcTools V29.0 (currently in progress) and above. An ERF is a text file containing a list of time series regions to remove from light curves for a project in order to eliminate bad sections and other unwanted artifacts. Applying an ERF to light curves in LcViewer and LcSignalFinder will facilitate viewing and improve the detection of signals.
If you have any questions regarding ERFs, please contact the LcTools author at aschmitt@comcast.net.
Part II. Installing an ERF
1. If ERF directory "<drive>:\ERFs" does not exist, create it. Any target drive can be used. For example, "C:\ERFs".
2. Using the table below, determine the target ERF you wish to install.
3. Right-click on the file link and select “Open link in new window” from the pop-up menu. Move the window so you can still see these instructions.
Available ERFs
4. You will be taken to Google Drive on the Web. Click on the Download icon located in the top right corner of the web page as shown below:
5. Once your Web browser has downloaded the file, click on the file to open it. Then save the file into directory "<drive>:\ERFs" using the same filename shown in the table above.
Part III. Setting Up the ERF for Use in LcViewer
1. Start LcViewer. If the "Open Lightcurve" dialog box appears, click the Cancel button.
2. Select command "File->Setup Excluded Regions" from the menu bar. The "Setup Excluded Regions" dialog box will open.
3. Using the drop-down button on the Project field, select the project for the ERF as shown in the table above. Be sure to select the correct project or the ERF will not function properly.
4. Using the Browse button, select file "<drive>:\ERFs\<ERF>" where <ERF> is replaced with the ERF name in the above table. The dialog box will then be populated as shown in the example below:
5. Verify that the "Enable Regions" box is checked.
6. Click the OK button. The ERF will now be applied each time a light curve file is loaded for the project.
Part IV. Using the ERF in LcSignalFinder
1. Start LcSignalFinder.
2. Set up a job for execution. The project for the selected Lightcurve Directory must match the selected project for the ERF. For example, "TESS_ELEANOR".
3. Click the "Start Job" button.
4. A dialog box similar to the one below will open:
5. Click the Yes button.
The ERF will now be applied to each light curve file in the job.
