Grading:
Your grades in US History are based on your ability to meet the essential standards of the course, which are listed below. These essential standards are assessed multiple times throughout the year, typically at least once per quarter.
Historical Content:
Understand the key content for the unit and explain how it connects to larger themes of American History, such as major freedoms, ideals of Declaration of Independence, and/or big ideas of government.
Historical Skills:
Write for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences
Read and comprehend history/social studies texts
Utilize speaking & listening skills in history
Final scores for each standard will be based on all summative assessments for that standard, with preference given to the most recent assessment.
You will also be assessed on the LASD Learning Behaviors (essential US History behaviors in bold):
Adapt & Preserve
Make Responsible Decisions
Follow expected routines for academics & behavior
Self-Directed Learner
Strive for high quality work
Collaborate with Peers & Adults
Contribute positively to whole class & small group discussions
Set Goals & Meet Them
The goal for all students is to master the standards by the end of the course. The following policies are in place to help ensure student progress and learning:
Retakes & Revisions:
If you are struggling to master a standard based on your formative & summative assessment scores, you will be required to attend tutorial(s) so that you can improve on that standard in future assessments.
Revisions are subject to teacher discretion
There are no retakes or revisions for tests & quizzes
If any assignment reflects cheating and/or plagiarism, you will be required to revise the assignment, according to the Egan Student Handbook.
Plagiarism is taking someone else’s work, words, or ideas and passing them off as your own. This can include directly copying or simply rewording someone else’s ideas. It is not acceptable to plagiarize anyone’s work (classmate, additional source or AI).
Absent & Late Work:
All assignments must be turned in before the unit summative assessment. Late or absent work from past units will not be accepted.
Please turn all assignments in on time to receive useful feedback. Use the Unit Slides on Google Classroom to monitor assignments.
You are responsible for completing all assignments, even if you have an excused absence.
All late work is accepted at teacher discretion.
