Course Description:
This course will cover United States History from the Revolutionary Era through Reconstruction. Additionally, you will end the year with an in-depth look at a 20th Century event. Reconstruction through the present will be covered in more detail in your junior year of high school. Throughout our study of history, we will examine the essential question: What is freedom?
A big focus in 8th Grade History is moving beyond facts to analysis; in other words, moving from “what?” to “why?” In addition to learning historical content, we will also focus on several academic skills tied to the Common Core History Literacy Standards. These skills focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking in History.
