About Us

In  1990, the Kitchener-Waterloo Field Naturalists initiated The Great Tree Hunt in Waterloo Region. Nomination forms were       made available to the local communities to help find the largest trees and trees of special interest within the Region of Waterloo.

With sponsorship and assistance from both Union Gas Limited and The Regional Municipality of Waterloo, 430 nominations were received and checked and the results were compiled in an Honour Roll of Trees.

Now, twenty years later, three local professional arborists Phil Dickie, Mike Hayes and Greg Templeman are about to undertake this task once more in initiating The 2011 Champion Tree Hunt of Waterloo Region.

The goals of this endeavour are to locate and identify Champion Trees within the Region of Waterloo and to raise awareness of the value of tree preservation.

Landscape Ontario has graciously offered to assist the committee with setting up and running this website and with the assistance of some potential key sponsors, this Champion Tree Hunt will hopefully generate a passionate interest and involvement within the Region of Waterloo.

We encourage you to check out this website for additional information regarding the 2011 Champion Tree Hunt of Waterloo Region.
