Daily Reading
It is extremely important that we remember to read on a daily basis. We recommend that you read for 15 minutes everyday. Reading can really help with your writing as you get to come across amazing vocabulary and fantastic ideas. You really use your imagination when you read!
Please ensure that you are challenging yourselves with your reading - we all love to read magazines and comic books but we need to make sure we are reading more challenging books too.

Reading Comprehension
As we are reading, we use the strategies below to help us understand and engage in the text.
Background knowledge - What do I already know? From the book or from life e.g. shiver - when I shiver it is because I am cold.
Predict - What do I think is going to happen? How will the character react?
Visualise - What can I see from the description?
Think like a detective - This links with background knowledge. e.g. if the character is shivering then it must be cold so I can guess it is winter
Meaning breakdown and Repair - I don't know what this word means. How can I use the sentence or word to help me figure it out?
VIP words and phrases - What key information am I being given?
Gist - putting everything together to understand what is happening or the meaning
