Coding is what makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps and websites, and it is a great way for children to develop their computer skills whilst having fun.
There are lots of coding tools available that are free and easy to use where children can create their own online games.
Code Camp World is a great place to start for beginner coders, as it provides easy to follow videos. Children can also use this platform on any device, such as a tablet or mobile phone. With parental permission, registration for Code Camp World is free. Below is an example video to give you an idea of what you can expect as a beginner coder.
Here are some of the games created by children in Class 4 for you to have a go at.
For more advanced coders, an alternative is Scratch, which is the coding software we will be using when we return to school. The downside of Scratch is that it cannot be used on mobile phones yet, but it can be used on other devices, such as tablets. Scratch is also an online community, where coders can communicate with each other for support and inspiration. Here are some useful videos to get you started.
