Only students who are enrolled in the band during the school day may participate in the following extra bands:
Select Band
Meeting Time: Mondays, After School until 3:20
When does it start? Preparation for the Winter Concert goes from Mid October-December. Preparation for the Spring Concert and Dorney Park trip goes from February-May.
Who can participate? Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade band students interested must audition for Mrs. Kulick, and be proficient on their instrument.
Where does this ensemble perform? Christmas in the Village, Winter concert, Spring concert, and competes at the High Notes Festival with a day in Dorney Park.
Jazz Band
Meeting Time: Fridays, After School until 3:20
When does it start? January-May
Who can participate? Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade band student. No audition is necessary, however the student must be proficient on their instrument. The only auditions will be for those who would like to play guitar, piano, or drum set.
Where does this ensemble perform? Spring concert, Ensemble Night, Jazz and Chili Night, and competes at the High Notes Festival with a day in Dorney Park.
Honors Bands
Sussex County Junior Honors Band
Description: Sussex County Junior Honors band which is open to students in all Sussex county schools (yes, this does include Jefferson!) The students' names will be sent in by the director and they will be notified if their name is selected. If the student is selected, they are in the group and has to audition for chair placement.
Audition requirements:3 scales, chromatic scale. Selected excerpts of a band piece that will be played during the concert.
Time of year: Once audition, and a weekly rehearsal during October and November.

North Jersey Junior Area Band
Description: Junior Honors band which is open to students in 28 different school in Northern New Jersey. The students' names will be sent in by the director, and the names go into a pool and are chosen randomly. If the student is selected, they are in the group and have to audition for chair placement.
Audition requirements:4 scales, chromatic scale. Selected excerpts of a solo work for their instrument.
Time of year: Audition in December, First full week of January

Tri-M Music Honor Society
The Jefferson Twp. Middle School Tri-M Honor Society, Chapter 4967, brings the love of music to their school and community. Members share their musical gifts by performing in school and out in the community. The JTMS Tri-M members also volunteer their time to help at school based and community events. Tri-M fosters a place for members to grow as leaders within the organization. It shows members the importance of service both for their school and town community. Tri-M also helps to improve their musical skills through performance.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION
To be considered for nomination into the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a 7th or 8th grade student must:
A. Fill out and return this application by the set deadline.
B. Be enrolled in a performing ensemble during the school day for the whole current school year at Jefferson Twp. Middle School.
C. Exhibit leadership, service, and character in their activities while at Jefferson Twp. Middle School.
D. Maintained for the previous school year, an A average in their music class, and an A final average in each of the other academic classes, with exception of one B final average in an academic class.
IF you do not meet the academic criteria:
Please submit four (4) NON-music teacher “Academic Appeal-Teacher Survey”. with the membership application.
E. Be an outstanding member who participates in an after school performing ensemble (Select chorus, Select band, jazz band, Spring musical), honors group (County band/chorus, Area band, Junior Region Chorus), or other outside groups (community chorus, community band, SCYO, Children’s chorus of Sussex county)
The music department will then determine membership based on your application. If accepted, the student will be inducted into the society at a formal ceremony to be held in the JTMS Media Center.
