Last year I rolled out a new teaching/learning system to allow all students to learn a new topic they are ready to learn every day and progress at their own pace. I molded my system based on the work of George Betts, author of "The Autonomous Learner Model". However, my implementation of ALM had one MAJOR difference, and that is I am assigning the learning targets to kids while in Betts' ALM kids choose their own areas of interest to learn. To avoid confusion with more pure Autonomous Learner Models (such as implemented at several high school GT programs) I am going to refer to my system as "Personalized Learning Model" moving forward. Click here for an introduction. Since I am allowing kids to move at their own pace, it is possible to complete more than one year of math in one school year.
