PE 10 SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Physical Education 10 is a required course in the physical education department for graduation at Jefferson HS. PE 10 named, Fitness for Life, students will concentrate on personal wellbeing and lifelong physical activity. Students will learn how to use the fitness center at Jefferson, muscles, workouts, correct form and safety. The course requires physical fitness testing, 2 skills units, dance project, and the cardio pacer test while also incorporating a few team games for cardio. The course also requires completion of academic topics that will benefit lifelong fitness knowledge!
GRADING
1. Participation 20% (formative)
In class participation students can earn 4 points per day. Students need proper fitness clothes & shoes, hard working attitude, great sportsmanship, and quality leadership skills.
2. FITNESS TESTING 25% (Summative)
Students will be fitness testing and graded based on the Bloomington Standard of Scoring. Students will test at the end of the trimester and work on all tests through out the 12 weeks course.
3. PACER FITNESS TEST 25% (Summative)
Students will run the Pacer test (cardiovascular test) a total of 5 times during the trimester and scored based on the PACER grading rubric.
4. ACADEMIC ASSIGNMENTS/ FINAL EXAM 30% (Summative)
Students are required to complete all academic assignments online.
Academic assignments will consists of the following units: Where is your fitness level, Benefits of Fitness, FITT Chart, SMART Goal setting, Components of Fitness, Target Heart Rate, Evaluating fitness clubs & products and Nutrition. Students will take the final exam during exam testing days. The final exam will be accumulative of all the academic work we do in the Tri. Students may use (and highly recommended) a notecard (standard size, front & back) for the test.
LOCKERS
Each student will be given a combination lock and locker on the first day of the tri. Students need to keep this information private and make sure to lock ALL of their belongings. The physical education department and Jefferson HS are not responsible for lost or stolen items. If you lose your lock, there is a $5 replacement fee.
