Department of Human Rights to coordinate NYTD efforts
Oct. 2, 2016
The NYTD project is a federal initiative that collects information on youth in foster care including race, sex, ethnicity, date of birth, and foster care status. States collect outcomes information by conducting a survey of youth in foster care on or around their 17th birthday, 19th birthday, and 21st birthday. The survey will collect information on six youth outcomes: educational attainment, financial self sufficiency, high-risk behavior, experience with homelessness, positive connects with adults, access to health insurance, upon completion of the NYTD survey, youth will receive a monetary incentive in the form of a gift card for their participation.
Iowa NYTD surveys have been coordinated by Hornby-Zeller Associates, Inc., a research and consulting firm on the East Coast, up until Oct. 1, 2016. In an effort to localize the project, the Iowa Department of Human Services is partnering with the Iowa Department of Human Rights to continue the work of NYTD, effective for surveys starting October 1, 2016. The DHR’s role in NYTD is to distribute the surveys, collect data, disseminate incentives, and conduct outreach, training and youth engagement activities.
