Homework Page

• There is a big focus on the responsibility of completing and returning homework in Second Grade. The homework is an extension of what we have done in class and it helps them to develop positive study habits. It should be completed at home and I expect students to work on their own, asking for help only after they have given their best effort.. Please go over and correct your child's homework. If you notice many errors please sit with your child and do the homework together. This will help your child because they will receive individual attention from you. Eventually, the goal for the student is to review, practice, and become more independent.

• Homework is generally sent home as a packet on Friday and due the following Friday. This packet will include a Weekly Focus page that has the Spelling , Phonics , and high frequency words. Assignments typically follow lessons that were taught that day and should be a review that evening. Homework might also include comprehension, spelling, phonics, vocabulary, and grammar practice.

• Math homework is assigned each day unless there is a test. I prefer ALL work to be shown on a separate sheet attached to the homework page so they have ample room to work problems out. This allows me the ability to better see when and where mistakes are being made.

• Reading Fluency should be practiced each night as part of the nightly homework. These are typically the two short reads that we cover in class .

• When homework is not turned in your child will miss first recess to make up missing homework, unless you provide a note that is written and signed by you.

• Please be sure to check your child's planner each night and sign the cover sheet and reading log.

• This work should be returned to school the following school day. Homework will always be the same unless a notice is sent home. Students will be rewarded for returning homework on time.
