Using Technology To Create Universally Designed Materials

At the start of each school year, Stephanie Davis (8th grade Social Studies) and I work together to teach students how to write news article responses in a way that matches the HHS expectations for 9th graders. In order to accomplish this in a way that uses the principles of Universal Design for Learning, I created an interactive graphic organizer using an App called Thinglink. Using iPads, students can access the graphic organizer and touch "pins" to see definitions, graphics, and even a video about how to construct a thesis statement. This technology allows teachers to scaffold information in a way that is fun, interactive and engaging for students.
