Requesting Recommendations and Transcripts From Middle School Teachers and Staff
Private schools often require teacher and school counselor recommendations for prospective students.
Our school has created the following procedure to help simplify this process.
Students should personally inform their teachers and counselor right away when they need a recommendation letter and let them know that they will be sending them a link through email.
Private schools often require applicants to enter the email address of the staff member (math, ELA, foreign language, etc) when they are requesting a recommendation. Once the applicant has submitted this information, the staff member will receive an email from the school that contains a link to complete the recommendation form. Please allow at least three weeks for the forms to be completed.
School transcript forms are completed by the counselor(s). Please see the next step.
Guardians are required to sign a release of transcripts form before the school can send over any supporting documents (i.e., transcripts, grades, attendance, discipline reports). Many of the online applications may include a release which will cover the release of information. If not, guardians are required to sign GDRMS’s transcript release form and return it directly to their student’s school counselor (link found at the bottom of this page).
The school counselor will speak to the student about their application(s). Guardians should contact your student's counselor with any specific questions.
At the end of the application process, it is thoughtful if students follow up with a thank you note or an email to the teacher and counselor for taking time to write their recommendation.
After receiving decision letters in the spring, students are encouraged to inform their teachers and counselor of their plans for the next school year. Guardians should inform Gabi Ali, gali@gdrsd.org, in the North Office, if your student will be attending another school next year.
Please be advised that if GDRMS is not informed of an 8th grade student’s decision to attend a school other than GDRHS by May 22, student records will be sent to GDRHS.
