Each student is assigned a school counselor. This information is available on SchoolBrains, as well as the home page of this site. In 5th grade, students are assigned a school counselor by teacher (the 8 teachers are split amongst 3 counselors). Students will then be assigned a counselor for 6th grade and that counselor will transition with students through 8th grade. This allows the counselor, student, family and educators to build a better understanding of the student's needs and promotes healthier relationships.
Students with IEP counseling services will work directly with the adjustment counselor and they will be the point person for families regarding counseling.
Counseling is offered at both individual and group levels to help students make appropriate decisions and to foster a clear understanding of themselves and others. Each counselor provides short-term individual and/or group counseling around developmentally appropriate middle school issues/concerns, which may include: peer relationships, mental health, social skills, divorce/separation, transitions or adjustments. The counseling staff also helps coordinate communication between the school, families, and outside providers (private therapists, hospitals, psychiatrists, etc). Here is a release of information form that we use when the counselors need to communicate with an outside provider. Parents are encouraged to call the counselors with any questions or concerns.
