**Guidelines for the Day of Solo-Ensemble Festival**
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
Dress up. No jeans. This is a special day and you should plan to look the part.
Solo-ensemble is located at Preble High School on Deckner off of Danz Avenue and behind the American Red Cross building. Plan to arrive 60 minutes before your scheduled time.
Find the East Room for warm-up. Do not leave valuable items unattended.
Playing or singing only allowed in warm-up rooms. The halls are to be kept quiet. It doesn’t matter if somebody else is doing it, be mature.
Give yourself plenty of time to warm-up. There may or may not be a piano available in the warm-up rooms. If there is, it must be shared with all other performers in the room. Take turns, be courteous and make sure to give yourself enough time to use the piano (if necessary).
Check in with your performance room monitor 10-20 minutes before you are to perform. The site number is the room number. Let room monitor know of any conflicts you may have with that room.
If you have a conflict, always go to the event that affects the most people first. (example: duet before a solo, ensemble before a duet)
You are not allowed to change your performance time. See a teacher if you have a conflict.
If your accompanist is late, tell the room monitor. You cannot be forced to perform without your accompanist. However, if you do not have an accompanist and you are ready, you can perform early, if your wish, and the judge is ready for you. Any problems, ask Mrs. Iken, Mr. Brown, Mr. Aumann or Mrs. Hanold.
You must have a judge’s copy and your own copy and they must be originals (no photo copies allowed). Hand the judge’s copy to the room monitor. They will give it to the judge. Judge’s copies and piano parts for Mrs. Iken will be in our home room in the plastic bins.
AS YOU NEAR THE PERFORMANCE TIME:
The room monitor will let you know when it is your turn. Take care of any tuning with the piano in the room and wait quietly. Do not discuss the “events of last night” at this time. Act professional.
Prepare your instrument (wet reeds, empty spit valve, etc).
Position yourself so the adjudicator can easily see what you are doing. Don’t be afraid to move stands or chairs so that you are comfortable.
Mentally prepare yourself.
When the judge looks up or gives you a nod of the head, say your introduction, relax, take a breath and start. J This is your opportunity to show everyone what you can do. Let any mistakes go by, and enjoy making music!
Congratulations‼! You did it‼!
When you are done performing, relax, take a breath and walk to the judge’s table. He or she may have comments for you (if they are running late, they may not). Listen to any verbal comments and answer any questions. They may ask you to try a part of your piece again. That’s OK. Take your judge’s copy at this time and always tell the judge “Thank You!”.
AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED YOUR PERFORMANCE:
You may listen to other performers. We encourage it! If a friend is nervous and asks that you not come in the room, please respect their request.
Results for those being rated will be posted in the commons/cafeteria.
If you break your instrument, there will be a repairman in room 100 (next to the main doors to the building). He cannot help with broken reeds or strings though.
Food will be available for sale in the cafeteria. Wind players rinse mouth or brush teeth after eating.
MOST IMPORTANTLY…
No matter what rating you receive be proud of what you have done. Remember to support your friends in their musical performances.
