Jazz ensemble is an extra-curricular or co-curricular activity, similar to WIAA sports. The District's Co-curricular Code is in affect for this activity, however, physicals are not required. That means that you must have a Code Form signed and on file in the main office, you must be academically eligible, and you must follow the rules set forth by the Code. If there are any questions concerning this, please contact Mrs. Iken or Ms. Mathu.
Jazz ensemble will meet regularly on Mondays (4:30-5:30pm) and Thursdays (3:15-4:15pm). The director has the right to cut or "bench" an individual whose attendance puts the integrity of the group in jeopardy.
While it is the philosophy to include anyone with interest, there are some factors that may change that.
Solo-ensemble Festival requires that a student must be in a school music performance class.
When there are multiple players on a specific part in the ensemble, one or more may be required to sit out for that song. [i.e.: only one drummer or one piano player can play any given piece at one time; five alto saxophones on one part presents numerous balance issues and some may be asked to sit out for certain pieces or trade off].
