Prompt: What punishment, if any, should Alan MacQuattie be given for operating on his dog? Is he guilty of animal cruelty?


Expectations:

Good writing requires a balance between evidence, evaluation and commentary. Students are expected to include specific details and evidence in their writing. Assume you are writing to someone who has never heard the story before. You should include quotes and facts like what the dog acts like and how it interacts with its owner. The evidence you present must be evaluated and commented on. Explain how the evidence supports your thesis.


Hints:

"What is animal cruelty?" - Good way to start essay. Be sure you end your introduction with a thesis statement.

The second paragraph should be a description of what happened. Assume your audience has never heard the story.


Steps

A. Watch the video and read the story.

B. Copy the story to Google Docs. Mark up the story with ten comments/questions.

C. List 20 brainstorm words.

D. List seven random sentences.

E. List seven questions.

F. Write a seven-to-nine-paragraph essay. Each paragraph must be between six and nine sentences long. The introduction must have a clear thesis statement. Two quotes must be used in the essay to support your position. You may get quotes from other sources.
