If Mr. Winter is out due to illness and the substitute teacher is unsure what to do, the following lesson will be completed. The assignments will be written by hand and turned in by the end of class.

If Mr. Winter is out due to illness and the substitute teacher is unsure what to do, the following lesson will be completed. The assignments will be turned into Google Classroom and Turnitin. If a slot is missing, email Mr. Winter.

Students who do not have a computer or their phone will read silently for the period.

1. Use your computer and go to to ONE of the following news sites:

B. NBC News -

C. ABC News -

2. Read or listen a news stories. Be sure they are school appropriate.

3. List eight key words for the story that would help with a summary.

4. Write a summary for the story that is between four and six sentences long.

5. Ask five make-you-think questions for the story. Why-type questions are the best.

6. Write a page long reflection that reacts to one story. You will be using your opinion and point of view. Feel free to use your questions or arguments. You will need only one page for this final step.

*IF A STUDENT CAN NOT LOOK UP STORIES, A SET OF STORIES CAN BE FOUND IN THE FILING CABINET ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. LOOK IN THE FRONT OF THE TOP DRAWER.
