String Instruments

Viola and Violin

The violin is the highest instrument in the string family. The strings are E A D G, with E the highest and G the lowest.

The viola is the bigger than the violin because it is lower in pitch than the violin. It shares the A D G strings and adds a low C string.

Violoncello or 'cello

The cello is played in a sitting position. The strings have the same names as the

viola (A D G C), but are lower in pitch.

Doublebass or Bass

The bass is the lowest instrument in the string family. The strings are G D A E (high to low).
