Mrs. Higgins Classroom Expectations
Respect - Respect yourself, each other, me, and all property in this room! My students (YOU) are my first priority at school. I will do everything I can to help you, but you must be willing to work with me and others. It is my hope to give you and your classmates a great deal of freedom to express your ideas, opinions, concerns. Learning is FUN!

Entering the Classroom - Enter the classroom quietly and follow directions on the board immediately. Always sit in your assigned seat. You will always find the date, bell work assignment, and agenda for the day on the board. Spinners, fidget cubes, and toys (including sports equipment) of any kind are prohibited in my room. Leave them in your locker. Bring all the supplies you need to class each day. You will need a folder with three brads or a binder in which to store papers (notes, study guides, extended assignments) for this class. You will always need to have a writing utensil at the ready.

Restroom/Water Breaks –Restroom/water breaks will be regulated by hallway due to Covid-19, according to school policy. I am responsible for you during our scheduled time together, and our work together is important.
Attention! – When I am addressing (speaking to) the class, no one else should be speaking or distracting others. Some learners can't comprehend information while also dealing with background noise. Also, you never know when you could pick up something valuable.
Noise Level - We will maintain a low noise level during group work and discussions. If we are too loud and rambunctious, we run the risk of disrupting the learning environments of neighboring classrooms. NO TALKING during intercom announcements, instructions, or presentations. Even if you know the material or are aware of announcements, the needs of other matter, too. Always listen carefully and pay attention, so you can take care of yourself and help others if needed.
Work Area - Keep your work area clean. Debris and an unorganized environment create hazards for others. If you need to throw paper away, you may do so on your way out of class. Students will not be dismissed until our learning community is ready to be passed on to the next group.
Attendance - All students will adhere to FSD policy. Most (almost all) of our class activities will be posted on Google Classroom, and you can always find a weekly agenda on this website. YOU are responsible for checking online for and picking up work you missed while absent. It is up to YOU to arrange to make up the work missed. You should not assume I will hunt you down to ensure YOU have YOUR makeup assignments. All missed work must be made up. YOU are responsible for YOU. No exceptions. Avenues for checking for missing assignments include HAC, Google Classroom, classmates, and this website.
Tardiness - Coming to class late is disrupting to other students and is disrespectful. We will follow building policies governing tardiness.
Late Assignments/Missing Assignments/Incomplete Work – EVERYTHING we do in this class is designed to help you practice the skills you need to be successful. Students must work diligently to complete all assignments. Failure to give best efforts could result in lunch detention. Work must be submitted to your class period tray or through Google Classroom. Late work should be submitted to the late box. Students should email me if you have questions about late work. Unannounced visits during advisory and/or disrupting regularly scheduled class time are not acceptable.
Dismissal – You are dismissed when I release you. Stay on task bell-to-bell. Wait for permission to pack up your belongings, stop your assigned task, engage in personal grooming, or move from your assigned seat/area at any time.
Cheating and Plagiarism - Don't do it! Fair warning - you will have earned a zero and that is what you will receive. Should you allow someone to copy your work, please be aware that I cannot reasonably ascertain which was the original copy; therefore, both parties will receive a zero. Cheating is cheating, no matter which end you are on. You deserve credit for the hard work you did. Please make sure you get it.
THE STUDENT HANDBOOK REGARDING DISCIPLINE AND EXPECTATIONS WILL BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES.
Always do your best. I believe in each and every one of my students. I promise to always do my best for you.
I know you can do anything you set your mind to.
