Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Build a storage space
Prevent theft of items in storage space
Withstand elements found on a beach
Second Priority Objectives
Reduce Power usage
Learn more about design
Have fun
Win ASME award
Other Constraints and Issues
Retain the existing footprint, or extend it by no more than one foot in the lengthwise direction
All materials used must be able to withstand wear and tear found in a standard beach environment
Reduce cost as much as possible by using ready-made materials for future ease of manufacturing
Track surfboards using the least intrinsic methods possible
WOW Design Solution
A locking storage system that can store valuables and uses the same locking mechanism as the boards themselves. This system would use minimal power, be completely built from pre-made parts, and would be resistant to the elements found on a beach. In addition, the team will have learned design and fabrication skills during the process.
Risk Reduction Strategy
List areas of risk and strategy that will be used to eliminate risk really in the design process.
Folding systems within limited space
Will create prototypes to determine feasibility of design
Materials used
Will conduct research on materials that can withstand the environment of a beach
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
