Guidelines for Weekly Progress Reports
Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
High Priority Objectives
Fabricate a torso, upper arm, forearm, and hand for the figure.
Incorporate motors and hinges that overcome weight torques to achieve provided motion profiles.
Incorporate a single-board-computer control system to control the motors.
Include stiff, flexible, and fused modulable upper arm linkages for varied testing.
Include stiff and flexible modulable forearm linkages for varied testing.
Second Priority Objectives
Code PID control into the single-board-computer.
Add sensors such as stain gauges and accelerometers.
Fabricate a second arm and head for aesthetic purposes.
Design for transportability to enable use of the figure as a demonstration tool.
Other Constraints and Issues
Achieve required factors of safety.
Keep the motion profile less than 10Hz.
WOW Design Solution
The sponsor desires an animatronic object that can be physically correlated and tested to improve analysis techniques.
Risk Reduction Strategy
Smart scheduling to reduce time and cost.
Analyze and compare stresses in basic linkage, circular cage, and rectangular cage designs with FEA.
Fabricate accurate fuses based on research and testing.
Design for modulation to avoid inconsistencies in testing due to misalignments from frequent disassembly and reassembly.
Intermediate Milestones
Finalize BOM based on risk reduction and CAD model.
Fabricate and assemble all parts.
Run through a complete motion profile with stiff links.
Run through a complete motion profile with flexible links.
Run through each motion profile to break the fused link.
Correlate physical model with ATA analysis.
Individual Component Analysis Topics
Motors
Bearings
Magnets
Ball-Spring Plungers
