Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Two main designs will be tested out now
using a stiffer materials than a straw (ie, glass rod) to smear
based on last previous teams design
using a premade disposable smearer
dispose of smearing device after each sample
Goal is to get both of these tested and CADed this week
Accomplishments from Previous Week
eliminated the tape method
patented design
completed trainings required for lab saftey- cindy
set-up beaglebone and LCD screen - Marco
list of new possible methods for smearing
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.

Design Idea 1: Tape for smearing
Using just the tape (maybe a stiffer one) to guide the blood to smear
Wicking instead of smearing (no patent infringment)
Verify vs validation
Because of this, disposables are much easier and don’t need to “prove” cleanliness
Nonadhesive tapes give the thinnest layer of blood
Design Idea 2: Glass rods
Geometry issues
Need to figure out the best cleaning method/liquid
we could potentially use disposable rods and eliminate the need to verify and validate cleanliness
***no liquids. All disposable stuff
Electronics
Prefer simple bootup as opposed to desktop screen
Eventually want a wifi module to review images remotely
Best design
plastic rod and dispose of it after every smear- sponsor
Most guaranteed way of decent smear
